| | When I woke up yesterday and saw the shiny pavement, I was happy. Spring brings rain, moist earth, flowers. It also melts the last remnants of dirty snow lurking in the shadows of the house. I took my camera to school with me to capture some of the clouds I thought I may see on the mountains.

There were no clouds to be seen, just gray. Of course, there are no mountains when you take a picture in this direction anyway. The weather report was a mix of rain and snow, no accumulation.
When I got home and there was a soft layer of white on the lawn, but clear roads, I didn't much about it. Thoughts of offended blogging crossed my mind. My family in other places enjoy temperatures in the seventies, I called and whined and they all listened politely.

I was so busy painting and cleaning, I was really late to get Selah. To make matters worse, the phone had gotten water in it and wasn't working so I couldn't let them know I was alive and would be there soon. My cell phone is MIA, as usual, so I dashed to get Selah and was shocked by the snow in the streets. I didn't slide once on the way to school, and after I picked up my affronted girl, we went to the grocery store.
Noah abhors shopping, so I went before him because I'm so nice like that. The snow was coming down just amazingly when I got back out. It was blowing sideways, and it was hard to see. There were inches of snow I had to sweep off, in just an hour.

This is my what the ... face. Why? Why are we breaking the snowfall record for this late in the season. The previous record was, get this, .8 inches this late in April. Point eight.

This was after dinner. There were 14 inches and counting. It showed no signs of letting up. The nice thing was the light. It was still light out when John David left at eleven.

This morning, you can see Rachel is up to it in her knees. I honestly don't think we got this many inches in one snowfall all winter long. It's insanity. We were supposed to go to Curt Finch's memorial/funeral service but it was/is still snowing as I type. Apparently the storm covered all of Alaska. That's one big storm. We didn't want to take our studless tires and no 4WD over Eureka pass in this weather. We're sad about this. Blueberry pancakes this morning were nice, but by no means make up for what were missing I have some tidbits of the work we've been doing. I don't want to spoil it for you guys who are coming, but it does seem to be a pretty dramatic change. Just in the entryway though. I'm very proud of all of Eric's hard work. He's been coming home and jumping right in to the doors, trim, and banisters. When Ezra wakes, I think we'll brave our newly plowed street to go to the bank and the Lighting Gallery again for the living and dining area.

Let me tell you, that crackle thing is by no means easy. Please, please, do not look carefully. Eric saved my rear on that one. He broke the rules just enough to get it done well. It's freezing out. 30. I'm cold. And I'm Audi. Outie? Outy? Whatever. You get the picture.
