it goes something like this...

"mom, can we get a dog? I want a dog?"

"no"

"why not? I really want a dog."

"because, they cost money to keep them healthy, to feed them well, to keep their hair nice. We don't have a fence and we don't really have room."

"can't we get a fence? don't you want one anyway?"

"okay. here's the deal. dogs poop a lot. we have little kids in the yard, you would have to pick up the poop every day. at first you wouldn't mind. but then you would get tired of it. you would fight with your brothers about who needed to do it. it would turn into a fight. i would have to hear whining and bickering. i would get mad and yell. you would each decide to give the dog to each other, and that you didn't want it anymore. one of you would think this is a good idea, and would freak out and yell whenever the other child touched or petted the dog. eventually there would be yelling, tears, and you would both come to me and say I should have never let you guys have a dog. I am the mom and I shouldn't have let you get a dog.
So no."

"oh. okay."

PS- Nana, your package came yesterday!!! Hooray! Selah wants us to go read "Sarah Palin Tall" Ha!

Of course they are. I never said they weren't. I would love a dog, but I can not keep the house clean without animals, can you imagine adding hair to the mix. And poop, and poop on shoes on carpet. Nope. Not gonna happen. It would be wrong to have a dog that I would have to deal with all day long. I would have to take care of it. I'm not a dog person. I'm a cat person. That's the way God made me and I can't change it.

Good for you, Meggan. Stick to your guns and don't give in. Take it from someone who did give in and ended up with 16 years of dogs, dogs, dogs and their messes. Yuch!
Love you,
Mrs. Wallin

I'm confused... did Nana send you a big dog named Sarah Palin?  or are you saying that logic has trumped the desire to make your  children happy ?

I wish I had your Intestinal Fortitude!
